Based on the incredible true story, Titanic The Musical (not based on the movie) brings an epic show of history’s most tragic maiden voyage of the grand passenger liner, The Titanic. Thought unsinkable, this man-made, historical feat carried the individual stories of her passengers and crew. Discover the people aboard the ship of dreams with characters from all backgrounds and walks of life with joys and sorrows, pleasure and pain, some survived, but many perished. This Tony Award-winning Broadway musical features an epic score, and the alumni cast celebrating our 30 years of theatre ministry brings the same Broadway-quality, live performances you’ve come to expect from Christ Wesleyan Theatre Productions. A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR: AUDITIONS CHANGE!

We are excited that so many people new to Christ Wesleyan Theatre Productions have expressed interest and signed up for audition slots! However, because of that increase and because solo speaking and singing roles are reserved for the alumni from our theatre for Titanic the Musical to celebrate our 30th anniversary, we are requesting that newcomers email us an audition VIDEO of their song instead of signing up for an in-person audition. (If you’ve already signed up, we will be getting in touch with you.) A monologue is not required for newcomers as they will only be eligible for this show for the ensemble. Actors who have not participated in a past show with us but who are interested in performing with the ensemble in Titanic the Musical should email a song audition video to theatreproductions@cwc.life no later than Monday, August 1, 2022. Audition videos received after that date will not be considered. Thank you for your flexibility! Alumni wishing to participate must still sign up for an in-person audition slot online. Thank you!

Audition FAQs

How should I prepare for my audition?

ALUMNI

Remember to schedule your audition (below)! All actors auditioning should prepare a short monologue (2-3 minutes) that they find either online or from some other source and a song of their choice (average length is 3-4 minutes, but you may not need to sing the entire song) with accompaniment CD or mobile device. The total length of an audition should not exceed 8 minutes. Actors may also choose to provide their own live accompaniment (a piano is available). Both should be memorized. Monologues and songs do not have to be from Titanic the Musical but should show a range of emotions and skills (you do not need to provide copies of your monologue or song). Please arrive 30 minutes early to fill out the paperwork.

As a way to celebrate our 30 years of ministry, solo speaking and singing roles will be reserved for auditionees who have had any role in any show with Christ Wesleyan Theatre Productions in the past 30 years.

NEWCOMERS

Newcomers are welcome to submit a video audition of a prepared song (no monologue is needed), and should realize they will be considered only for ensemble roles. Email your audition video to: theatreproductions@cwc.life by Monday, August 1.

Schedule My Alumni Audition

Song
Your audition song will be of your choice. Realize we may stop you in the middle of your song once we’ve heard the range, pitch, and rhythm that we’re looking for.

Monologue
Choose your own monologue and be prepared to attempt the correct accent for each character. If you haven’t specified which character you’d like to portray, it would be a good idea to attempt several accents at home before you audition.

Accents
Accent/dialect work is important in this show, and we want to see your best attempt at the correct accent for each character. Perfection isn’t needed, we just want to see how well you can attempt it. You may be asked to perform the scene with and without the accents, so we can judge your acting ability.

Onstage & Offstage Ensembles
Both alumni cast and newcomers are welcome to audition for onstage and offstage ensembles, and will not need to provide a monologue. The offstage ensemble will sing live during performances in a choir room setting and will not perform onstage.

Dance
Actors will do some dance choreography as part of the show, but do not need to include dance in their audition. Titanic the Musical will require actors who are comfortable dancing.

Who can audition?
Actors ages 12 & up. (Children normally need to be at least 12 before they can audition.) All actors are non-paid.

Do you have to attend Christ Wesleyan Church?
No, anyone can audition whether or not they attend a church.

When are the performances?
November 10-13, 2022 with five performances:
November 10 & 11 at 7:00pm | November 12 at 2:00 & 7:00pm | November 13 at 2:00pm

1. Act. Don’t just read.
Remember, you are auditioning to act in a musical. Yes, there are times when simply being a cute little kid is enough, but for the most part, we are looking for actors. Make an impression by actually acting during your audition, not simply delivering lines.

2. Learn a little bit about the musical you’re auditioning for.
The more you understand the musical and the characters, the more you can tailor your audition toward your desired role.

3. Take the time you need to prepare.
Remember Rule #1–Act. Don’t just read. Be familiar with your audition piece and have it memorized. Don’t worry if your piece isn’t from this musical. We just want to know you have the ability to actually act.

4. Slow down and enunciate every word.
One sure sign of nervousness is speeding through the lines. When you talk too fast, it is harder to make sure each word is understood, and the emotion that should accompany those words does not come through. Slow down and make sure you can say each word clearly.

5. If you make a mistake, battle through it.
Even the best actors occasionally make mistakes onstage. But good actors know how to work through their mistakes without letting the audience realize that a mistake was made. One of the things we are looking for is poise. We want to know how you will react when things don’t go as rehearsed. If you fall apart during an audition, it doesn’t give the director much confidence that you will react well on the nights of the show. If you do make a mistake, don’t apologize. Don’t ask to start over. Just pick up from where the mistake was made and push forward.

6. Be humble.
No one is guaranteed a spot in a musical. It doesn’t matter what other roles you’ve had or other theatres you’ve worked with. Each part has someone just right for the role…that may be you, but maybe not. That doesn’t mean you’re not a good actor. If you come across as being someone who is hard to work with, it makes it much more difficult for the director to give you a part. We have seen quite a few actors walk into an audition because they just assume they will be given a part, and their audition is flat and uninspiring. Then they are shocked when they didn’t get a major role in the musical. If you are serious about wanting a role, you need to give it your best. Every time. If you have acting experience, we will know from the information on your audition form. It is not unusual that a person with no previous acting experience gets a good part because they blew us away in the auditions.

7. Audition often.
One of the biggest obstacles between you and getting cast in a musical is your nervousness. Nervousness makes you more timid. It makes you talk too fast. It makes you less memorable and more likely to get lost in the crowd. The best way to overcome your nervousness is to practice. That means auditioning more. If you don’t get the part, shake it off as a learning experience, and when the next show rolls around, go out and audition again. The more you go through the process, the easier it becomes.
