Agatha Christie’s

The Mousetrap

Plot Summary

The world’s longest-running play, Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” is set in wintry London in 1952 at the recently converted guest house, Monkswell Manor, run by the young, newly-married owners, Giles and Mollie Ralston. The Ralstons are busy preparing for the arrival of their guests and concerned with the blizzard raging outside. While stranded in the snowstorm, this group of strangers discover there is a murderer among them, and with the help of Detective Sergeant Trotter, must not only survive, but identify who the killer is.

Cast of Characters

There are 8 roles available. (Click the character’s name for the script excerpt.)

  • Mollie Ralston – (Age: 20s-30s, British accent) Proprietor of Monkswell Manor and wife of Giles. She is very excited, but nervous for her and her husband’s new business venture.

  • Giles Ralston – (Age: 30s, British accent) Husband of Mollie who runs Monkswell Manor with his wife. He loves Mollie very much, and though he is excited about their new business venture, he does realize they are amateurs in the hotel business.

  • Christopher Wren – (Age: mid 20s-30s, British accent) Wren is a hyperactive young man who acts in a very peculiar manner. He is the first guest to arrive at the hotel. He admits he is running away from something, but refuses to say what.

  • Mrs. Boyle – (Age: 60s – 75, British accent) A critical older woman who is pleased by nothing she observes. She is never happy about anything and has no problem making that perfectly clear.

  • Major Metcalf – (Age: 40s-60s, British accent) Retired from the army, little is known about Major Metcalf. He is a nice gentleman who in many ways keeps to himself.

  • Miss Casewell – (Age: 30s-40s, British accent) A strange, aloof, masculine woman who speaks offhandedly about the horrific experiences of her childhood.

  • Mr. Paravicini – (Age: Undeterminable, Italian accent) A man of unknown provenance who turns up claiming his car has overturned in a snowdrift. He appears to be foreign and artificially aged with makeup, or is he? A strange man who enjoys being the center of attention and playing jokes on others for his amusement.

  • Detective Sergeant Trotter – (Age: mid 20s-30s, British with slight cockney accent) A policeman who arrives in a snowstorm, saying he has come to protect the guests from the murderer. While appearing young, he does take his job quite seriously.
